Monte Brè – Lugano’s local mountain

Highlights Ticino

On your DIAMANT luxury trip, you can choose between the cable car ride up Lugano’s local mountain Monte Brè, the boat trip from Lugano to Morcote (Switzerland’s most beautiful village in 2016) or the ascent of Monte Generoso. The 925-metre-high Monte Brè rises to the east of Lugano and offers fantastic panoramic views of the Bay of Lugano and the Valais and Bernese Alps. Thanks to its sunny climate, Mediterranean vegetation thrives here. A funicular railroad has connected Lugano-Cassarate with Monte Brè since 1912, making access easier.

Our tip: Visit the small artists’ village of Brè, which, in addition to its works of art and traditional Ticino houses, also offers the cozy Grotto Castagneto restaurant. Here you can enjoy regional specialties while admiring the spectacular view of Lake Lugano and the surrounding mountains.

Sun-drenched Monte Brè: pine trees, palm trees and more in Lugano

Thanks to its sunny climate, Monte Brè is one of the warmest places in Switzerland. The southern slope in particular, where the Lugano districts of Aldesago, Ruvigliana and Cassarate are located, is home to Mediterranean vegetation including pines, cypresses, palms, acacias, oleanders, olive and pomegranate trees. The mild, sunny climate of Ticino allows these plants to grow, with frost rarely occurring even at higher altitudes.

Since 1912, a funicular railroad from Lugano-Cassarate via Ruvigliana has connected Monte Brè, facilitating access to the mountain and allowing visitors to enjoy its beauty and impressive views.

Village Brè – bijou with rural charm

Monte Brè offers a magnificent panorama of the city, Lake Lugano and the surrounding mountains. A picturesque walk leads down to the village of Brè, which has retained its typical Ticino village center.

The picturesque village of Brè has retained its charming character as an old rural settlement. It is known for its grotti, traditional inns where local specialties are served. Over the course of time, Brè has become an artistic oasis, with numerous works of art enriching the village landscape.

Inspiring atmosphere: works of art adorn the alleyways of Brè

The narrow streets of Brè are lined with sculptures, installations and works of art by various artists. This unique combination of traditional architecture and contemporary art creates an inspiring atmosphere that delights visitors.

The village of Brè not only offers cultural highlights, but also spectacular views of Lake Lugano and the surrounding mountains. Hiking trails lead through the idyllic landscape and invite you to discover the beauty of the region.

With its picturesque ambience, traditional atmosphere and integration of art, Brè is an enchanting place that attracts visitors from all over the world and offers an unforgettable experience.
