The canton of Zug is regarded as Switzerland’s tax haven and has the lowest tax rates in the country, at around half the Swiss average. There are around 12,000 registered companies and around 40,000 jobs for every 30,000 inhabitants of the city. Numerous multinational companies have their administrative headquarters in Zug. In the commodities trading sector, Glencore should be mentioned, as well as the BASF subsidiary Wintershall and Unilever. The financial sector is also prominently represented. In addition, many holding companies, domiciliary companies and trust offices are based in Zug, which are known as letterbox companies.
