The museum building was designed by renowned architect Mario Botta and is a work of art in its own right. The central hall offers space for up to twenty works by Tinguely and is an impressive space. A special architectural feature of the museum is the elongated, elevated building on the south side, which appears separate from the main part of the museum. This area serves as a kind of promenade over the banks of the Rhine, which visitors have to cross, offering them a fascinating view of the river.

The Museum Tinguely houses the world’s largest collection of Jean Tinguely’s works and is therefore the central point of contact for anyone interested in his life and work.

The permanent exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of four decades of his work. In addition, the museum regularly presents temporary exhibitions dedicated to various artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. These exhibitions, inspired by Tinguely’s ideas, include his role models such as Marcel Duchamp and Kurt Schwitters as well as contemporary artists such as Arman, Niki de Saint Phalle and Yves Klein. The Museum Tinguely is also dedicated to current themes and trends in the art world.

Jean Tinguely (1925-1991) is one of the most innovative and important Swiss artists of the 20th century. The Museum Tinguely honors his contribution to art history and offers visitors the opportunity to explore his artistic development and his influence on other artists. From his groundbreaking kinetic sculptures to his other experimental works, Tinguely’s artistic legacy is comprehensively represented at the Museum Tinguely.
